The cold winter weather hasn’t slowed down the operators of the new sightseeing company that will operate sightseeing cruises to the base of the falls this spring.

Hornblower Niagara reports that 90 % of one of the new catamarans that will operate in the lower Niagara River below the falls is now complete. It’s anticipated that the second catamaran will be finished and ready to go by this April. Each vessel will accommodate 700 passengers; have on board washroom facilities and a licensed concession. A third, 150 passenger boat is being built for private charters and special events.

Hornblower Canada was awarded a 30-year, $500-million contract by The Niagara Parks Commission in 2012.They own the land where Hornblower Canada docks their boats.

The Maid of the Mist, that has offered similar tours below the falls since 1846, has now re-located to new facilities in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
