About

Since the escarpment towers so high above us it is tempting to think that some stupendous force within the earth has thrust these cliffs towards the sky. As appealing as this explanation may be, the truth is far from this. To better understand the origin of the Niagara escarpment we must look far back into the geological history of this area. To a time of ancient seas, brimming with bizarre life, but what would a talk of ancient seas be without... sea monsters. Long before the pirates of the Caribbean there were krakens in the Silurian seas of Niagara. Join us as we take a geological excursion into the formation of the escarpment, and the treasure that lies trapped below, for more than 400 million years.
