Battle of Chippawa to be Commemorated
On July 5, 1814 U.S. forces defeated British forces at the Battle of Chippawa resulting in the deaths of hundreds of soldiers on both sides of the conflict. Chippawa is a small community located just south of Niagara Falls along the Upper Niagara River.
The Niagara Parks Commission in 1995 acquired 121 hectares (300 acres) where this famous battle took place. Today there is a free self-guided walking tour of the site. Each July 5th at 5 p.m. there is a memorial service to commemorate the fallen troops.
