A Photo from the Past
With the Journey Behind the Falls (Previously known as the Table Rock Scenic Tunnels) celebrating its 125th anniversary this year I thought it might be interesting to look at an old photo that shows a couple at the attraction taken on August 4,1945.
The tunnels had been barricaded with barbed wire during most of World War 11.Inspection of the tunnels revealed they were unsafe and it was decided to build new tunnels through the rock (they are the ones in existence today).
The couples wearing the heavy black raincoats and the big rubber boots are identified simply as Mr and Mrs. Harry Lewis.
This photograph is from the Francis J. Petrie Collection found at the Niagara Falls Public Library.
