This is an example of an early daguerreotype photograph taken in the early 1840’s.

 

The view is taken from Prospect Point on the U.S. side of the border at the edge of the American Falls.

 

It was usually the well-to-do, who could afford to travel, who visited Niagara Falls in those days.
