Niagara Parks Police Founded on May 27th, 1887
What is one of Ontario’s earliest, if not, first police forces was founded 187 years ago on May 27th, 1887.
When the then called, “Queen Victoria Niagara Falls Police Force” consisted of a Head Policeman who was paid $2.50 per day and a Park Policeman who got $2.00 per day. They each received two uniforms and two pairs of strong boots.
Today, Parks Police force consists of 20 full time officers, 4 communicators, and about 30 seasonal staff. Parks Police have the same powers as a Municipal police force.
The police force patrols 62 ha (2800 acres) of parks along 56 km (35 miles) of parks along the Niagara River.
