The Niagara Falls Wedding & Fashion Museum features three galleries including wedding attire plus fashion and accessories from the 1750s to present. This one of a kind exhibit features a visually stunning displays of vintage wedding and fashion attire. Take a nostalgic stroll through the long history of fashion.

In Ontario, you are required to obtain a marriage license at the Municipal Clerk's Office - which in Niagara Falls, Ontario is located at City Hall. Both parties must sign an application form and provide two pieces of identification: one piece must be a birth certificate, change of name certificate, current passport, record of immigrant landing, Canada Citizen Card or Adoption Papers, the second piece must contain another form of photo identification.

In Ontario, you must be 18 years of age to get married, and the marriage ceremony may be performed by a minister or member of the clergy registered under the marriage act, or a judge/justice of the peace.

The fee for the license is $125.00.

Are there any health requirements?
There are no requirements respecting premarital blood tests or medical certificates within the province of Ontario to be granted a marriage license.

Where can the marriage license be used?
A marriage license is valid for use anywhere in Ontario. The license expires 3 months after the date of issue.

What are the requirements if I am divorced?
Any applicant that has been previously granted a divorce or annulment in Canada, must file the original or a court certified copy of their final divorce papers (Certificate of Divorce or Decree Absolute) with the Municipal Clerk's Office at the time of application.

If a divorce or annulment was granted outside of Canada, the applicant must obtain authorization from the Minister of Consumer and Commercial Relations prior to receiving a marriage license. This authorization can be obtained by submitting the following documents to the Office of the Registrar General:

• A completed marriage licence application signed by both applicants.
• A copy of the decree of divorce or annulment (certified by the proper court officer in the jurisdiction the divorce/annulment was granted) or sealed by the court. If the decree is in a language other than English or French, include a certified translation.
• A statement of Sole Responsibility for each divorce signed by both applicants. Blank affidavits are available from the issuer of Marriage Licenses.
• A legal opinion of an Ontario lawyer, addressed to both applicants, giving reasons why the divorce or annulment should be recognized in the Province of Ontario

What is required if I am a Widow/Widower?

Where a spouse has died, proof of death must be provided if death occurred outside the Province of Ontario.

Honeymooning in Niagara Falls dates all the way back to June of 1801.  Joseph Alston and his newlywed wife Theodosia, who was the daughter of U.S. Vice President Aaron Burr, travelled from Albany, New York to Niagara Falls for a trip that they had named their “Bridal Tour.”

Soon, following their example, two other high-society newlyweds visited Niagara Falls: Jerome Bonaparte (A younger brother of Napoleon) and his Baltimore bride Elizabeth Patterson in 1804. And thus the new social custom, honeymooning at Niagara Falls, was born. At first, it was limited to the wealthy, but before long, railways were bringing honeymooners to Niagara Falls on a daily basis. Honeymooning here became so popular, it was the song of the year in 1841: My Niagara Falls Honeymoon. 

Fast forward to the 20th century, photographs and video became much more relevant in society and the beauty of Niagara Falls could easily be seen by those a world away - broadening the honeymoon locale's appeal. This along with the Marilyn Monroe classic film Niagara that surrounded a newlywed couple celebrating their honeymoon at Niagara Falls, further cemented the city's title as Honeymoon Capital of the World.
