Niagara's Metropolis
King Camp Gillette, the inventor of the disposable razor blade was always told by his parents as a young boy to dream big.
Well, he sure did. In a 150 page book entitled, “The Human Drift” printed in 1894 and written by Gillette proposed a mammoth city at Niagara Falls called Metropolis. This would not just be another city but the only city on the continent, housing almost the entire population of the United States. His proposal was dismissed as the ravings of a lunatic.
The following year he had another invention that would prove he wasn’t a lunatic when he invented the Gillette Safety Blade. With his picture on every package he became one of the most widely recognized human beings in the world. How’s that for thinking big.
I’ve attached a sketch of the proposed Metropolis.
