The Roar of Niagara Falls on Christmas Day 1935

The Roar of Niagara Falls on Christmas Day 1935

Here’s something you might find of interest.

In 1935 when radio was still relatively new, the newly formed Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (established 1932) decided to place a microphone at the furthermost portal tunnel in the attraction named Table Rock Scenic Tunnels (now called the Journey Behind the Falls) located at the brink of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. Listeners were able to hear the mighty roar of one of Canada’s national icons, Niagara Falls, throughout the day.

Apparently, the broadcast was a huge success.

You can still visit this attraction year-round (closed Christmas Day) and hear waters of the five Great Lakes come crashing over the mighty Niagara Falls.

Merry Christmas to all!
