A Royal Story
As the Director of Public Relations for the Niagara Parks Commission I had an opportunity in the summer of 1987 to escort Prince Andrew of Great Britain and his bride Sarah on a tour of Niagara Falls. After we had taken a ride on the Maid of the Mist (I’ve posted a photo of them that I took exiting the Maid of the Mist) I accompanied the couple and their aide to the Table Rock Scenic Tunnels (now re-named Journey Behind the Falls) below the falls. There are two portals behind the falls where people throw money into the cascade for good luck and then make a wish. I asked the Prince if he “would like to throw his mother in the falls?” His aide almost fainted. I quickly pulled out some Canadian coins that had an image of his mother on them. The Prince smiled and said, “Jolly good. Jolly good.” He used up my last 80 cents. True story.
