In my last blog I spoke about the hotels found in the park near the falls.

It reminded me of another hotel that I read about found near the falls between 1880 and 1933. The Lafayette Hotel was located near the Canadian end of the Upper Steel Arch Bridge. This bridge was replaced by the Rainbow Bridge built in 1941.

One of the two photos attached shows a vacant piece of land on the right which is where Oakes Garden Theatre was built in 1938.

The other 1927 photo shows a bus turning right past the hotel heading towards the falls. Look carefully and you can see a single room cost $3.00 for the evening. The tracks of the Great Gorge Route (Niagara Belt Line) run parallel to the Niagara Parkway.
