New Markers Placed Along Niagara River Trail
The Niagara Parks Commission recently placed 14 new markers along the 58 K (35 mile) recreational trail which runs parallel to the Niagara River from Fort Erie to Niagara on the Lake. This trail, with much of it found in Niagara Falls, began in 1986, already has over 71 markers, monuments and plaques along its entire length. This now increases the number of markers to 85. The trail is a scenic, paved path for walkers, runners, non-motorized bicyclists and wheelchair users’.
This trail is part of a larger 24,000 K Trans Canada Trail which runs across Canada from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans passing through over 1000 communities. The Trans Canada Trail started in 1992 as a project to celebrate Canada’s 125th anniversary as a country.
I have in my library a small booklet written by Bill Wilson called, Plaques Along the Niagara River Recreation Trail”, published by the NPC which describe interesting history along the trail.
If you enjoy reading about Niagara history try and pick this booklet up at your library.
