Niagara is Powerful
A lot of people don’t realize that Niagara Falls is much more than a magnificent waterfall. It’s also a great source of electricity.
For many years four generating plants have operated on both sides of the border as a result of the water from the Niagara River. Dean Norton of Ontario Power tells me that without the water diverted from the Niagara River we would not be able to produce this great source of electric power. During the winter months as much as two-thirds of the water that could go over the falls is diverted to produce electricity. During the warmer months only fifty percent of this water is diverted.
The Adam Beck Generating Plants on the Canadian side at Queenston and the large Robert Moses Generating Plant in Lewiston, N.Y. produces enough power to light 24 million 100 watt-bulbs!
Niagara Falls is not only beautiful it’s powerful!
Attached is a photograph I took of the Robert Moses Power Plant.
