Parking at the Falls in 1953
Parking near the falls in the early 1950’s was a lot different than it is today. Cars are parked right at the edge of the Niagara Parkway opposite the Niagara Parks Refectory Restaurant (now, Edgewaters Restaurant). This is not allowed today.
The Horseshoe Falls is seen in the distance. In 1951 water was diverted up river from the falls to be used to produce water powered electricity at Queenston, Ontario. You can see the reduction of the flow of water laid bare some of the rocks on the left of the falls.
The parapet and original 1887 lamppost is still around today.
