The Peaches are Out
There are several things that I like about living in Niagara and just one of them is the availability we have to fresh fruit, especially peaches at this time of the year. Travel the Niagara Parkway, north of Niagara Falls below the escarpment, and you’ll come across numerous fruit stands where real farmers sell fresh fruit picked the same day.
Over 90 % of Ontario’s fresh crop (peaches, pears, plums, prunes, sweet and sour cherries) come from the Niagara peninsula and the majority of these fruits are grown in orchards found in nearby Niagara on the Lake. The current peach crop represents about 81 % of Canada’s peach harvest!
