At The Brink in the 1930’s

This is one of my favourite photographs from my personal collection. Things were different when you visited Niagara Falls in the 1930’s. Note the formality of dress of the people who are standing at the wall near the edge of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls at Table Rock. You can see the volume of water going over the American Falls is much greater than it is today. Since the early 1950’s half the water going over the falls in summer is diverted for power purposes.

I like to stare at the people in the photograph and wonder what they were thinking at the time the photo was taken.

This same wall is still around some 85 years later.
