Illumination of the Falls Go Out for Earth Day
The Niagara Falls Illumination Board will be switching off lights on the Falls on Saturday, March 23rd from 8:30pm until 9:30pm. They are doing this to help raise awareness and support for action on the issue of climate change.
Millions of individuals, cities and businesses will also be taking part in this movement started by the World Wildlife Fund in 2007 in Sydney, Australia. The turning out of lights event reaches people in 178 countries and territories. Earth Hour is planned to coincide with the spring equinox to ensure most cities are in darkness as it rolls out around the earth.
The lights will be turned back on after 9:30pm and remain on the Falls until midnight that evening.
