Let Us Light Up Your Life
In Niagara Falls we can do just that every night of the year.
Today, 18 exnon gas spotlights shine amber, white, blue and red light up the falls every evening all year long.
A single operator, either Dick or Peter, change colours by manipulating controls that place coloured film over giant lights. The large casings that hold these lights were acquired from Great Britain after the Second World War. These casing at one time held lights that lit up the skies above London during the Battle of Britain.
The Niagara Falls Illumination Board was established in 1925.Today, the operation is paid for by The Cities of Niagara Falls Ontario and New York, The Niagara Parks Commission, The State Reservation at Niagara and Ontario Power Generation.
