More on Princess Diana's October 26th, 1991 Visit
I’ve blogged before on this visit of Princess Diana and her children, William and Harry. See the blog “Princess Diana Visited Niagara Falls 24 Years Ago” that I posted on October 23, 2015.
Let me tell you a bit about her 25-minute ride aboard the Maid of the Mist. When we arrived at the dock in the lower Niagara River, we were met by the owner of the boats, James Glynn, and his family.
Once settled on board the princess and her children started to explore the boat and take in the views of the falls up close and get wet at the same time. Before I met the royal family earlier in the day to take them on a tour of the falls (I was at the time the Director of Communications for the Niagara Parks Commission and it was my job to escort high profile people around the park and Falls) I had purchased a small disposable camera. I politely asked if I could take some photographs of them and she kindly said, “Please do” and even posed for some of the pics.
On shore, the paparazzi were seeing all of this happen.
After the royal family had departed, I was offered by one of them, $2,000 for the camera with the negs inside. I refused.
A few weeks later, I put together a package of about 20,11x14 photographs and sent them to her in London. I had forgotten about the package until I received a letter from her Equerry which I have attached.
It was one of the most memorable days of my lifetime.
I’ve attached some of the photographs I took that day.
