Being such an iconic location, it's no wonder the city has been the backdrop for several movie and television sets over the years.  Beginning with the Marilyn Monrone classic, "Niagara", here are eight movies that used Niagara Falls as their prime filming location. 

1. “Niagara” (1952)

This thriller, which stars Marilyn Monroe, Jean Peters, Casey Adams, and Joseph Cotten, is said to have brought Marilyn into the spotlight and launched her movie career. About 50 Niagara residents appear in the movie as extras.

2. ”Luv” (1967)

This slap-stick comedy starring Jack Lemon, follows a depressed Harry Berlin, played by Lemmon, who runs into an old friend as he is about to leap off a bridge.  This friend, Milt, is facing his own problem: he has fallen out of love with his wife, Ellen. In a misguided effort to solve both of their problems, Milt introduces Ellen to Harry, hoping the two will fall in love.

3. “The Great Niagara” (1974)

A bitter old man, played by Richard Boone, is obsessed with trying to conquer the Niagara River and the Falls. He endangers the lives of both of his sons and forces them to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel during the Depression.

4. “The Dead Zone” (1983)

Most of the filming for this scary movie by Stephen King and David Cronenberg film took place in nearby Niagara-on-the-Lake. Martin Sheen plays a right-wing populist who would lead the U.S.A to a nuclear war.

5. “Superman II" (1980)

The majority of this film took place at Table Rock at the edge of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. Superman, played by Christopher Reeve, agrees to sacrifice his powers to start a relationship with a fellow Dailey Planet reporter, played by Margot Kidder. The film also stars Gene Hackman and Ted Beatty.

6. “Trapped in Paradise” (1994)

An American Christmas themed crime comedy follows residents of a friendly Pennsylvania town (Niagara-on-the Lake stands in for this town) as they foil three brother’s plans to rob a bank on Christmas Eve. Stars Nicholas Cage, Jon Lovitz, and Dana Carvey.

7. “Canadian Bacon’’ (1995)

In this comedy, a U.S. president low in the opinion polls, gets talked into raising his popularity by trying to start a cold war against Canada. The film stars John Candy, Dan Ackroyd, and Rhea Perlman, and was written and directed by the one and only Michael Moore.

8. “Camille” (2008)

A twisted honeymoon adventure about a couple on their way to Niagara Falls, who crash their motorcycle, killing the newlywed bride. The groom vows to stil make it to their final destination. Stars James Franco, David Carradine, and Sienna Miller.
