The lights that illuminate the falls each evening will be turned off for one hour on Saturday, March 25th between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. The reason for this is to bring awareness and support for action on the issue of climate change.

The World Wide Fund’s (WWF) Earth Hour first started in Sydney, Australia in 2007.Today over 7,000 cities across 120 countries around the world take part in this global event. The “turn-off” is scheduled in late March to closely coincide with the spring equinox to ensure most cities are in darkness as it rolls out around the earth.

The light is scheduled to be turned back on that evening for a half hour until 10 p.m.
