Niagara Parks is the Oldest
Many people in Ontario believe that Algonquin Park is Ontario’s first provincial park. They’re wrong. Algonquin Park was established in 1893.
Ontario’s Niagara Parks Commission which runs along the Niagara River corridor between Fort Erie and Niagara on the Lake was established in 1885 with the signing of “The Niagara Falls Park Act” making it Ontario’s first provincial park.
The Niagara Parks still falls under the mandate of the Ontario government operating with their own commission. The park is self remains self-sustaining as it did when it was first formed 121 years ago.
