Nikola Tesla Remembered
Some folks may not know the name but in the late 1800’s he was a “big Deal”.
On one of my recent walks in Queen Victoria Park near the falls I came across a statue of Nikola Tesla. I remember when the statue was unveiled in July 2006 right across from the falls. The reason the statue is here is because Mr. Tesla in 1896 developed Alternating Current (AC) electricity and the world’s first hydroelectric power system and it all happened in Niagara. Before this invention electric current (DC electricity) could only be sent short distances. The development of this new source of alternating current changed the world that we now live in.
This is just one of the 700 inventions that this great physicist, inventor and electrical engineer developed throughout his lifetime (1856-1943).
