Queen Victoria Park 1870's
I thought you might enjoy seeing an early 1870’s photograph of the area we now call Queen Victoria Park. This photo show what it was like before the formation of the Queen Victoria Niagara Park(now The Niagara Parks Commission) which was formed in 1885. The park near the falls below Murray Hill Ravine (now Murray Hill) was officially opened two years later on Victoria Day, May 24th, 1888.
Note the lack of a protective stone wall and the horse and carriages travelling along a dirt road. Squint and you can see in the upper left corner a part of the original Table Rock building built in 1853.
This place looks a lot different today but the falls is still flowing.
