Whirlpool Aero Car Attraction is 100 Years Old
It was on August 8th, 1916 that the Niagara Spanish Aero Car, also known as the Whirlpool Aero Car in Niagara Falls opened officially to the public .Since then millions of tourists have had a birds-eye view of the treacherous whirlpool as they are glided across the whirlpool on six cables of the car some 250 feet above the whirlpool.
The system was designed and constructed by the brilliant Spanish engineer, Leonardo Torres-Quevedo. When it opened this was the first of its kind anywhere in the world.
Today, this popular attraction has never had an accident. It has been owned and operated by The Niagara Parks Commission since 1969.It operates year-round provided weather conditions permit it to do so.
